Guild Wars Live, a live broadcast of competitive Guild Wars for the community.
Me and a friend have been having a lot of fun chatting on stickam lately (some website where you can go on webcam and talk to people in chat rooms), and we came up with the following idea. I'd just like some feedback from the community on whether you would be interested in such a thing or not.
Our idea was to broadcast us playing matches of HA and GvG live on stickam, so other users could watch and listen WHILE the action is going on and discuss it with one another, and so new players if so interested could watch to maybe learn a thing or two.
"Well durrr just watch observer mode" - This would differ from observer mode quite a bit. For one it would be playing realtime, and all the sound from ventrilo would also be recorded and played in the chat room. Also this will allow users to actually talk about what's going on, because even though observer mode has a chat, let's face it, there's not much chatting going on there. Also this would just be a cool thing to do for my friends who have either played Guild Wars in the past or are looking into playing Guild Wars in the future.
Here's how the room would look like:
So what would people think about this? Good idea, bad idea? It'd just be a fun thing for me and my friends to do, almost like a 100% more interactive observer mode.

if the bandwith holds up it'd be a great crasher course for the completely clueless, and when it comes to pvp mentoring, kiSu seems to be the leader in that atm, so, hit them up with this idea.

I've tested the bandwidth issue, it doesn't effect my ping in-game at all, and the stream plays at about 5-10fps, a bit laggy but definitely visible enough to understand what is going on. And i think i've got a friend in kiSu, i'll talk to him next time he's online ;o

Brilliant idea. May I suggest a feature for saving the match to a video with or without the audio comments (for later viewing)?

Not a bad idea, I would probably never log on but, I could see how some people might enjoy this kind of thing. Would be interesting for new or even old players wanting to get into PvP.

I once had idea of making composite videos (3x3 matrix of videos with one being blank) from guild trips to harder areas to showoff coordination and cooperation.
This goes beyond that, good idea.

If the quality of commentators (knowledge, humor) is good enough, then why not, could be something that replaces old WoC.

Sure, it'd be helpful.
But how does it help someone if some guy whose guild is apparently not even on the ladder shows off his lack of talent to everyone?
You'd have to make sure someone actually good was doing it.

It's just a java page loaded by a website, it's 'finished' so to speak now But we may start doing this for real in as little as one month or so, possibly even sooner.

Yes it's 100% free and easy to use, it's as simple as going to a website, registering an account, then clicking to view the live stream. I'll need to PM a mod to see if i can post actual URLs to the website, i'm not sure if it's somehow breaking the rules or something.

Ignorant and elitist opinions are held in no regard whatsoever. It's just a video game buddy, and i'm just a casual player having fun. Sorry!

I'd use it, but I'm not the man in charge. I'll post it on the forums.
Most of our instruction comes from pre-and-post GvG/Scrimmge lectures, as well as very informative essays on our forums. Being active in the game -in the competitive environment- is very educational, but I can see how this could work. We are encouraged (required) to watch Observer mode and to listen in on gvgs in progress.

Wow, how immensely interesting the idea is. Depending on the ease of setup, it would have a fair amount of implications and uses.
One question that comes to mind is how ANet would view the system. Observer mode was given a time delay, I understand, for a variety of reasons. Since this system overrides that time delay, I would think it opens up the discussion to that subject.
All things being equal, we'd definitely use it in kiSu--given that we sometimes have 25 people in a Vent channel where only 8 are actually playing...

Perfect. In PvP use it's nice to teach and give live commentaries, as for PvE, I can see it to teach as well and monitor possible contests and whatnot too.
Think it's given me a reason to play again...

imo as Red pointed out, this would be a horrible tool to use during competitive PvP, because all it would take is someone from the other team to connect in, and they know your every move. It would require a Time Delay, or pre-recorded commentary to be listened to later

besides the fact that other team could listen on their opponents im whole heartedly /singing this, just still need the time delay or some way for the opposing team not to spy on you.

If there's a way, make it password-encoded so only people who know the password can see it?
Also, a side note: This probably wouldn't have all the bells and whistles of Observer Mode. The camera would probably only revolve around one person unless each person on a team had a camera set up..
